Students can now enjoy smoothies during breakfast on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the dining hall.
This addition is part of Metz Culinary Management’s continuous effort to improve dining options, according to Campus Executive Chef Adam Harvey.
“We’ve been exploring new ways to enhance our breakfast offerings, and smoothies have been a fun addition,” Harvey said. “We’re currently offering them on Tuesdays and Thursdays to gauge interest, and the response has been fantastic.”
According to Harvey, Metz offers two smoothie options and will cycle through flavors to add variety. So far, menu options included blends of strawberry, banana, mango, dragon fruit and pineapple.
Senior Thomas Smith, a regular attendee of breakfast in the dining hall, said he enjoys the addition of smoothies to the breakfast rotation.
“It’s actually really good — a good balance of banana and strawberry. It will add a sparkle to my morning when I choose to have it,” Smith said.
Senior Lucy Treene said the recent changes to the dining hall’s breakfast menu motivated her to attend breakfast regularly this year, and is enjoying the addition of smoothies.
“This year what made me start coming to the dining hall was the coffee and the berries,” Treene said. “The coffee is so great, and they got new mugs. There’s nothing better than sitting down with a mug of coffee in the dining hall. So you’ve got your berries, your mug of coffee, and now you’ve got your smoothie.”
Harvey said the Metz team makes changes to keep dining options fresh and relevant to dining trends.
“Much of what we do is shaped by student feedback, as well as broader trends in campus dining and the culinary industry. We want every meal to feel fresh, engaging, and relevant to how students eat today,” Harvey said.
Some of the recent changes to campus dining include the addition of the “Pure + Simple” station and an AJ’s Cafe menu refresh.
Harvey said the Pure + Simple station has been received well by students.
“Even students without dietary restrictions enjoy the station because it offers additional variety and a fresh approach to balanced, wholesome dining,” Harvey said.
According to Harvey, Metz will evaluate changes to AJ’s Cafe over winter break.
“AJ’s received a major refresh this semester, featuring rotating smash burger and power bowl specials, house-made soups, and healthier side options like rice and seasonal vegetables,” Harvey said. “We’ll review performance and feedback over winter break to determine which items become permanent fixtures.”
As Metz continues to make changes, Harvey emphasized the importance of student feedback about dining options.
“We continuously refresh our cycle menus to add variety and keep things interesting,” Harvey said. “These special offerings help us test new recipes and gather feedback directly from students. I encourage everyone to share ideas with the Metz team — every comment is read and carefully considered as we plan future menus.”
