Live music and fellowship will return to the Gospel Barn this weekend.
The Gospel Barn’s 2024 season will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday with a performance by The Overtones, a gospel quartet from Lafayette, Indiana.
“They really do a nice mix of strong four part harmony, a lot of energy, and a lot of great songs,” said Scott Wiley, the Gospel Barn’s owner. “They’ve been a favorite here for quite a few years now, so we’re looking forward to welcoming them back.”
The Gospel Barn’s house band will play before the concert begins and during intermission. Concessions available for purchase include all beef hotdogs and BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, as well as candy, ice cream, and carmel corn.
Junior Stephen Berntson, the president of the men’s music fraternity, said he is excited for the upcoming season.
“In the past, the men’s music fraternity has donated to the Gospel Barn and we probably will in the future as well,” Berntson said. “Corey Champion, who runs sound for the Gospel Barn, is a great friend and very generous with his talent and equipment.”
The Gospel Barn will host a concert each Saturday evening through Oct. 26. Tickets cost $7 at the door and attendance is free for children ten and under. The venue will also host five double concerts throughout the season, with performances at both 1 and 6 p.m. Tickets can be pre-ordered online for $18.
“We have a number of people who travel away or maybe from a large church group, and they are looking for opportunities to buy tickets in advance so they know they will have the tickets and have a seat,” Wiley said.
The Gospel Barn celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. Wiley said his plans for this year are the same as always — keeping prices low to make high quality performances available to as many people as possible.
“We’re just going to continue to do what we’ve always done,” Wiley said. “We’ve got just a great group of family, friends, volunteers who are all involved, and they have taken a lot of ownership and satisfaction.”
Most groups performing in the 2024 concert season have played at the Gospel Barn before, but the venue is also welcoming three new groups including the Divinity Trio and the Browders. Wiley said he is especially excited to welcome Texas Star, a Country quartet.
“They play big rodeos and stuff like that, so they’re going to be something a little bit different for us,” Wiley said. “I’m pretty excited about them. I’m always looking for, week to week, having some nice variety.”
Wiley said he is excited to share gospel music in a state where it doesn’t flourish.
“It’s a little touch of Americana,” Wiley said. “It’s a really special thing and I want as many people as possible.”
