Career Services will host a policy and philanthropic internship and job fair Feb. 28.
The event will be one of 12 job fairs for students hosted by Career Services this academic year.
Thirteen employers will be present at the fair including American Philanthropic, Bearing Tree, Cato Institute, Illinois Policy Institute, Independence Institute, Jack Miller Center, Leadership Institute, Mackinac Center for Public Policy, and Talent Market.
A Feb. 27 panel will allow students to hear advice from experts in public policy and ask questions.
Students planning to attend can expect to encounter networking, internship and career opportunities in the policy industry. Hillsdale alumni will be present at the fair according to the Handshake website
Assistant Director of Career Services Sharon Rupp said Career Services encourages students to keep their options open and go to all job fairs.
“Going to a job fair early on, especially as a freshman, is all about networking, and they can establish relationships, and understand what the organizations are looking for,” Rupp said.
Rupp advised students to make sure their resume is up to date and prepare an elevator pitch about themselves.
Roma Rogers, program manager and internship coordinator, advised using resources like Handshake and organization websites to find out more information about an employer.
Rogers also advised students to dress professionally and bring printed copies of their resume.
“Be prepared to talk. Don’t be shy,” Rogers said. “If you don’t know about the industry, learn about them.”
Information about the job fair and panel, as well as how to sign up, is available on Handshake.
