
Meg Kolp is a senior volleyball player from Petoskey, Michigan.
Q: If you had to replace a volleyball with any piece of fruit during a game, what fruit would you pick? Why?
A: If I had to replace a volleyball with a fruit, I would choose a grapefruit! I feel like they’re large enough to set and light enough to pass.
Q: What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received from a coach?
A: The best piece of advice I have received from a coach is that being the best isn’t a natural thing. People have to be willing to bend their entire lives around in order to be great, and the majority of our greatness is sparked by having gratitude for everything we are given.
Q: If you could be the main character in any movie, who would you be and why?
A: Definitely Sandra Bullock in “The Blind Side.” Everyone knows she’s confident through both her actions and her words. I also think she’s iconic and plays so many incredible roles in movies.
Q: What is your biggest unpopular opinion?
A: My biggest unpopular opinion is that the movie “The Nightmare before Christmas” is a Christmas movie.
Q: What about Hillsdale has surprised you the most since freshman year?
A: The part about Hillsdale that has surprised me the most is how much effort our professors put in to help us excel in the classroom. They are always willing to attend to our needs and support us outside the classroom as well.
Q: Would you ever coach volleyball in the future? Why or why not?
A: I have thought about coaching volleyball in the future. I enjoy running the summer camps and spending time with kids who are willing to learn and hustle.
Q: Describe your ideal fall break in three sentences or less.
A: My ideal fall break would be spending a weekend with my teammates at the weekend crossover tournament that we have every year. It would be nice to maybe have some cider and donuts added in there as well.
Q: What is the hardest thing about volleyball?
A: The hardest thing about volleyball is most definitely the mental aspect of the game. It is proven that there are approximately 13 seconds between each play, so what your mind tells you in those 13 seconds will contribute to your actions in the next point.
Q: If you were a pizza, what toppings would be on that pizza?
A: If I was pizza toppings, I would be tomatoes, basil, mozzarella, goat cheese, and chicken.
Q: What is your biggest goal for this year’s volleyball season?
A: My biggest goal for this year’s season is to embrace every last moment. I have cherished my years within this program, and I will forever be grateful for the family I have built here.
