The 1844 Society’s “Love the Dale” week began on Monday. Each day, the 1844 society hosts events in the Grewcock Student Union to foster love for the college.
“We lean into the meaning of ‘It’s the People’ and invite students to take a note and leave a note of affirmation,” said Braden VanDyke, assistant director of student and young alumni Programs.
Throughout the week, students can enjoy treats like Checker Records coffee, Jonesville Bakery cookies, stickers, magnets, and more, according to VanDyke.
The highlight of the week, the annual spring 1844 Society Service event, will take place Feb. 17 at 3 p.m. in the union TV lounge. Students will pack lunches for the Hillsdale Warming Shelter.
“We invited students to write and sign thank you posters for their residence hall staff,” VanDyke said. “Tuesday, we highlighted the faculty with an activity that asked the students to guess their professor’s baby picture.”
The 1844 Society featured alumni and donors on Wednesday.
“Alumni and donors of the college continue to give and support the college because it is close to their hearts even though it is far away in the distance,” VanDyke said.
The ‘Love the Dale’ week has been an annual tradition of the 1844 Society for a few years. It aims to highlight students’ favorite parts of the college, VanDyke said.
Senior Grant Boyes is a member of 1844 Society who donates to his home for the past four years, Simpson Residence.
“‘Love the Dale’ week is important to appreciate Hillsdale College and understand what the college does for us,” Boyes said. “I love to see my gift go to good places.”
Boyes encouraged people to donate to the 1844 Society.
“It’s amazing to see your gift do wonders for the groups you give to,” Boyes said.
