Shotgun Team Attends Nimrod Education Center Launch Event

The Hillsdale College shotgun team provided demonstrations at the launch event for the Nimrod Center for Education in Areas of Consumptive Sport and Recreational Hunting and Fishing on Saturday, November 30.

The Nimrod Education Center was established to help with Hillsdale College’s effort to advance education in the natural sciences.

“Alan Taylor, chair of the Nimrod Society, made a generous gift to establish and endow the Nimrod Education Center to help promote the natural sciences including hunting, fishing and shooting sports at Hillsdale College and throughout the country,” Director of the Nimrod Education Center Alan Stewart said.

Stewart said the education provided by the Nimrod Education Center is important to a liberal arts education.

“The Nimrod Education Center aids Hillsdale College in its mission to provide a classical liberal arts education, an essential part of which is the study of the natural sciences,” Stewart said. “By teaching the importance of hunting, fishing and wildlife management, the college forms educated citizens who appreciate and steward the environment.”

Senior Anthony LaMacchia said the launch event was attended by many notable people, including Olympic medalists Ginny Thrasher and Maddy Bernau.

“It was attended by representatives of the Nimrod society, college donors, members of the College’s shotgun team, members of the Olympic shooting team, and Dr. Arnn,” LaMacchia said.

Stewart said members of the Hillsdale College Shotgun Team provided demonstrations to the guests while representing the excellence of Hillsdale College students during the event.

“Team members were able to demonstrate their shooting skills and assist attendees in learning about firearm safety and technique,” Stewart said.“The shooting team was also exposed to shooting and conservation leaders from around the nation. This exposure is an essential component of Hillsdale’s liberal arts education.”

According to LaMacchia the event was a success.

“The event was a great time in which members of the above parties could come together to celebrate both the college’s partnership with USA Shooting and the establishment of the Nimrod Education Center,” LaMacchia said.
