The Interfraternity Council is hosting a Red Cross blood drive on Monday, Feb. 19, from 11 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. in Grewcock Student Union.
Vice President of Delta Sigma Phi Joe Spampinato said the drive was a success last year.
“We did well, but we were three bags short of our goal,” Spampinato said.
The group had a goal of 98 bags of blood, a number suggested by the Red Cross, but had too many students cancel after succumbing to cold and flu season.
Dean of Men Jeffery Rogers approached Spampinato about running this semester’s blood drive after seeing the way he handled the one in the fall.
“IFC is doing this event to provide an opportunity for all the fraternities to work together on a philanthropy project,” Spampinato said.
Members of DSP, Alpha Tau Omega, Delta Tau Delta, and Sigma Chi will be donating a combined sum of approximately 160 hours over the next week to run the drive.
“It’s an important service to the health institutes of America,” sophomore and DTD member Jonah Davey said. “If everyone had the mentality that it wasn’t necessary, then there would be a lot of people dying.”
