This summer found Hillsdale College bustling with renovations.

“It’s been one of the busiest summers that we’ve had in terms of total work orders,” says Chief Administrative Officer Rich Péwé. The college now has at least seven projects underway, and many more in the running.

The largest construction project involves refurbishing the John A. Holter Shooting Sports Center. The building alone has already cost the college $2.5 million, and the finishing touches have yet to be completed. Péwé spoke of plans to add a lounge, formal dining room, and Rangemaster, among other things.

Student housing has also seen renovation this year. The college replaced worn-out boilers on the South side of Simpson Residence in anticipation of winter, and Péwé said he anticipates the necessity for roofing work in the near future.

Additional re-roofing work done on MacIntyre Residence and Olds Residence cost the college an estimated $230,000 and $190,000 respectively and concluded this past week.

Renovations are also in order for the newer Grewcock Student Union. Plans to address ventilation issues that have been present since the building’s construction in 2007 are expected to be put into action in the spring of 2014. Additionally, Péwé cited plans for updating Saga, Inc. at an anticipated cost of $13,000.

Projects on campus such as these are typically funded solely by donations to Hillsdale College.
