On Sunday, March 24, Hillsdale College campus networks will be shut down for network maintenance from 9 p.m. to midnight. This includes student and faculty email accounts, Hillsdale College websites, and Internet access for anyone still on campus.
In recent years, many Hillsdale students attempting to access the Internet have been blocked because they lacked required SafeConnect software or because their routers were not configured according to specific standards. The upcoming network maintenance will alleviate this particular annoyance.
The maintenance period will not significantly inconvenience students, most of whom will be away from the campus for spring break. When students return, however, they will no longer need to install SafeConnect software or configure routers according to unusual specifications.
Executive Director of Information Technology Services David Zenz hopes that these changes will streamline network access for everyone.
“The changes that we’re trying to make will make it easier for new students to arrive on campus and navigate the network,” Zenz said. “We’re trying to be more open. We’re trying to be less restrictive.”
On Monday morning following the outage, additional ITS staff will be available to assist with any questions or concerns that users may have.
