Dec. 6 at 7 p.m., the theatre honorary, Alpha Psi Omega, will entertain its final audience for the semester in a hilarious variety show that will incorporate the vast talents of many faces you have seen this semester, the improvisational club Misdirections, and many more.
Senior Stephan Godleski, President of Alpha Psi Omega, said the APOcalypse –– which will take place in Markel Auditorium –– gives the spotlight on the individual.
“A lot things that we do in the theatre department showcase a group and the qualities of the theatre department, but APOcalypse is really a time for individual talents that we have to really shine through,” he said. “And it let’s people know that APO is an actual honorary.”
A potpourri of skits, improv games, dance routines, and songs will remove the theatre department from the tragic tears, anger, and death it has been immersed in this past semester.
“It has been a tragedy-filled semester for all of us,” senior Margaret Ball, production manager of APOcalypse, said. “So we need to do it not only for ourselves, but also for the student body that needs a little break from their overwhelming studies. Everyone needs a good laugh because laughter is the best medicine and so that is what we want to do with APO.”
One of many skits involves poking fun at this season’s shows. For example, Alpha Psi Omega members have decided to rewrite the tragic tale of “Medea” by giving Medea a “Sassy Gay Friend.”
“Sassy Gay Friend is a wonderful Youtube creation,” Peter Kistler, Alpha Psi Omega historian, said. “He’s this guy who usually wears purple and these wonderful long scarves and walks into tragic situations in famous literature and completely averts disaster. ‘Medea’ was the perfect candidate for this.”
The APOcalypse, filled with clever but casual humor, offers an enviornment for Hillsdale students to get a glimpse into the fun side of the theater department.
“The best thing about APOcalypse is that it is full of inside jokes and things that you would get if you saw the plays or if you have ever been to AJ’s,” junior Katherine Denton said. “That is what the show is about and we fully expect catcalls and boos and hisses and cheers and we in fact encourage that. I wouldn’t go so far as to throw things at us, but, if you want, well, then bring your rotten vegetables.”
A special surprise will be revealed to those that attend the Thursday performance as the entirety of Alphi Psi Omega will take the stage in a charming and heart-warming pageant written by Mark Keller.
“It’s adorbs,” Godleski said.
APO promises that the night at Markel Auditorium will be an opportunity to “let loose” with the honorary and Misdirections.
“Its finals and you need a break,” Denton said. “So come watch our show.”
