The Hillsdale women’s tennis team defeated all three teams that they played last weekend. On the road from Friday through Sunday, they beat Walsh University 6-3, Malone 8-1, and Lake Erie 9-0: a straight sweep and program first. Their success of the past weekend secured their place in the GLIAC tournament, the team’s main goal of the year.

“That’s huge,” said freshman Sydney Delp.  “We even surprised ourselves a little by getting such a high seed.  We have the confidence that we can beat anyone.”

The team’s high energy pushed them through the weekend and they dominated decisively, players said.

Senior team captain Brittany Parks, freshman Sydney Delp, freshman Lindsay Peirce, and sophomore Morgan Delp all went undefeated for the entire weekend, in both singles and doubles.

On Sunday, they pulled ahead in close matches to defeat Malone. Freshman Rachel Blaauw and junior Morgan Linden played especially well in singles, pulling out third-set tiebreakers for individual wins.

The tennis team will play against their rival, Grand Valley State, on Friday at 1 p.m. in the last home match of the season.  If it rains, the match will be held in Toledo, Ohio at 2 p.m.
