SAB to host Escape Room

SAB to host Escape Room

The Student Activities Board will put on its first ever Escape Room activity Thursday night in Kendall and Lane Halls.

“It’s an event SAB has been looking forward to so much. Different teams have signed up and will be solving escape room puzzles together, and events where we get to see people work as a team and solve a problem are always a blast for everyone involved. Furthermore, all participants are invited to dress like their favorite professors, and winners will get prizes!” said SAB team member Daniel Doyle.

The 19 expected teams will meet in the tunnel between the two buildings just before 7 p.m. Each team of five members will be assigned to a classroom with an “escape box” waiting for them.

“Their phones will be left by the door where an SAB member can see them to make sure that nobody is using their phones to help them solve the box,” SAB team member Emma Kate Mellors said.

An escape room is a game where the players are trapped for a period of time in a confined space, and must work together and solve a series of puzzles to escape before time runs out.

At 7 p.m., teams will open their boxes. Inside they will find a series of mental puzzles they must solve in order to beat the game. SAB members will give clues and check answers as needed. A box of snacks will also be provided for each team including candy, La Croix, and Skinny Pop. The event is expected to last two hours.

The first team to arrive at Central Hall after its members complete their box correctly will choose from the prize table, which will include Squishmallows, Rough Draft gift cards, and some other selections.

The two prizes will be for first place and best dressed.

“All the teams were requested to dress as their favorite professor, because the escape boxes are professor themed,” Mellors said.

More than 25 teams registered, but SAB was able to accommodate only the first 19 due to the number of escape boxes, and there is a waitlist.

Freshman Teri Crnkovich is excited to attend the event.

“I’m looking forward to it because my whole life I’ve watched shows or movies that have characters solve problems to escape sticky situations and I’ve always wanted to do an escape room and experience a stimulation where I can channel my inner Sherlock,” Crnkovich said.
