Students swung by Mauck Solarium to sip boba and listen to fun bops on the Tuesday night before fall break.
The Student Activities Board served up free boba tea to students in the solarium, decorated for the fall season with string lights, standing tables, and decor.
“The chai came from Penny’s, so it’s really nice chai because we wanted it to taste good,” junior Joy Hanes said. “The boba came from Metz, so they helped us make that, and they also made black tea for us.”
Hanes said that SAB ordered peach poppers — otherwise known as tapioca pearls — for peach and black tea boba, and that fellow SAB team member Josiah Jagoda made the brown sugar syrup for the chai boba.
“I make boba alot at my house,” SAB team member and junior Josiah Jagoda said. “There’s a distinct lack of boba here in the Midwest, so I missed it and I started making it and I taught myself how.”
SAB coordinated with Metz to get the tapioca pearls, according to Director of Student Activities Maddie Clark.
“We estimated about 400 servings total, about 300 for the chai since we knew the chai would be popular, and about 100 of the peach popper,” Clark said.
A playlist curated by alumna Hannah Cote ’23 provided the “bops” part of the evening. According to Clark, Cote originally made the playlist for CHP showdown.
“We were going to set up for CHP Showdown, and she quickly pulled together an awesome playlist,” Clark said.
Junior Sophia Rome appreciated SAB’s effort and attention to detail in the event.
“It was my first time trying popping boba,” Rome said. “SAB used its resources well with the setup in the Mauck Solarium and the patio.”
