The Hillsdale men’s track team sent its two decathletes, senior John Baldwin and sophomore Cass Dobrowolski, to compete in the All-Ohio Multi in New Concord, Ohio, April 6-7. Baldwin and Dobrowolski participated in their first decathlons of the year. Dobrowolski finished second overall with a total of 5,663 points in his first collegiate decathlon. Baldwin finished right behind him in third place with 5,450 points.
Baldwin took first place in three of the ten events. Baldwin took first in the 100 meter dash with an 11.86 second finish. Dobrowolski finished third in the event at 12.31 seconds.
Baldwin took the 110 meter hurdles with a 15.47 second finish for 794 points. Dobrowolski finished third in the event at 15.84 seconds, which was good for another 751 points.
Baldwin’s final win came in the pole vault, his regular event, where he cleared 3.80 meters for 562 points. Dobrowolski’s 3.20 meter clearance earned him third place, which was good for 406 points.
Dobrowolski took first overall in shot put, with a 10.06 meter mark, earning him 489 points. Baldwin took second place in the event at 9.82 meters, earning 475 points.
Dobrowolski also took first in the long jump, his regular event, finishing at the 1.94 meter mark and earning 749 points. Baldwin finished in third place at 1.73 meters, earning another 569 points for his overall tally.
Dobrowolski’s final first place finish came in the javelin event, with a 41.13 meter throw for 459 points. Baldwin took second with a 40.80 meter throw, earning another 454 points.
“My first decathlon was a learning experience,” Dobrowolski said. “I’m excited to work on the parts that did not go too well and improve upon my first decathlon.”
Baldwin and Dobrowolski tied for second place in the long jump event. Both athletes finished at 6.21 meters as their best jump of the day, earning 632 points each. Baldwin also finished second in the discus throw event, with a mark of 28.65 meters, while Dobrowolski finished third at 27.96 meters.
The entire Charger team will head to Tiffin University to compete in the Tiffin Extravaganza April 14-15, followed by the Al Owens Classic at Grand Valley State University April 21-22.
