Indie-pop band Arlie will perform at Centralhallapalooza on April 23, the Student Activities Board announced on Monday.

“My band and I are so excited to play at Hillsdale,” lead-singer Nate Banks told The Collegian. “College shows are so much fun, especially when we’re playing for people who are already into the music — sounds like we’ve got some real fans at your school. I hope you guys come ready to sing and ready to jump!”

The Nashville-based band’s 2018 debut single “big fat mouth” put the former bedroom pop project on the map. Arlie includes vocalist and guitarist Banks, bassist Jason Antwi, backup guitarist Carson Lystad, and drummer Adam Lochemes.

“Arlie is an indie-pop band that quite a few people on campus have heard of and enjoy,” sophomore Student Activities Board member Gabby Lewis said. “They seem very eccentric and fun, and will bring energy to this year’s CHP.”

Lewis said she expects students to enjoy the band’s performance.

“They are upbeat and passionate and I think that the student body will thrive off their energy,” she said.

Director of Student Activities Zane Mabry said SAB considered the availability and costs of bands of a variety of genres for this year’s event, and  started brainstorming bands early last semester.

“After our search, Arlie was well-liked on the team and available,” he said.

Junior Marie Taylor said she looks forward to seeing one of her favorite bands perform.

“Arlie’s music has been on my playlist for the past two years and I am incredibly excited to be able to see them live at CHP,” she said. “Their music is generally upbeat and is a great option to appeal to the large variety of music tastes on campus.”

Taylor said the band’s song “blackboard.edu” makes them the perfect band to perform at Hillsdale.

Sophomore Caleb Sampson, an Arlie fan, said he is excited to see the band in concert for the first time.

“I’ve been listening to Arlie since their debut album, and they’ve been one of my favorite underground indie bands since,” he said.

Though Arlie has not released the setlist, Lewis encouraged students to start getting ready to sing along at CHP by listening to the band on their favorite streaming service.

“Students can expect top Spotify songs/their more popular songs to most likely make an appearance,” she said.

SAB will drop the theme of CHP this Friday, Lewis said.

“We are super excited to have an entire band play at CHP this year and they are pumped to play for us,” Mabry said.
