Student bands will battle next week for three coveted spots as opening acts at this year’s Centralhallapalooza.
Hosted by the Student Activities Board, CHP Showdown will feature eight bands, who will perform April 7 in the Old Snack Bar, from 8 p.m. to midnight.
“We’re giving students an opportunity to perform in front of the student body for a chance to open for the big title at CHP,” SAB member and junior Kathleen Weis said.
At the end of the night, students will vote on which bands will open at CHP on April 23 by dropping tokens in a bowl.
CHP Showdown will showcase two returning bands, Sad Dads and Stella Anne and the Half Pints, as well as debut six new ones. New bands include Distracted by Pigeon, Half House, Night Shift, Now Hiring, Schizmatics, and Them Kids.
“All except Stella Anne and Sad Dads are new to Showdown, although some people in the other bands have performed before with different bands,” Residence Life Coordinator Rachel Marinko said.
Weis encouraged attendees to “be fun” at the event.
“Come ready to dance because the bands are going to be energetic,” Weis said. “Students have to respond to that.”
Anna Fieser, senior and lead singer of Stella Anne and the Half Pints, said she is excited to play at CHP Showdown. Though her band has played before, it is her first time joining them.
“I’ve been attending CHP Showdown since my freshman year and am so excited to finally play in it,” Fieser said. “I’m especially excited because our band has been gearing up for it since the beginning of the year.”
