The swim team swept all but two events at their meet against Notre Dame Ohio this past Saturday and won 139 to 63.

“We’re looking really good going into the halfway mark and we’re only looking to go up from here,” Junior Sydney Slepian said.

The Chargers took the first and second spots in the 200 yard medley relay. The winning team, composed of sophomore Caroline Holmes and freshmen Emma Dickhudt, Megan Clifford, and Lily Golladay, finished in 1:53.50. The second place team, composed of Slepian, freshman Joanna Burnham, senior Stefanie Walker, and junior Marie Taylor, finished in 1:55.28.

Taylor went 24.78 in the 50 yard freestyle, winning by a 1.34 second margin. Golladay came second (26.12)  and senior Becca Briskey came fourth (26.99). Taylor won the 100 yard freestyle (54.27) and sophomore Cecilia Guadalupi (55.39) and Golladay (56.96) came second and third respectively.

The team topped the 200 yard freestyle event, with junior Leah Tunney in first (1:58.21), Guadalupi in second (1:59.33), and freshman Joanna Burnham in third (2:05.26).

Tunney won the 200 yard backstroke as well (2:10.37) and Holmes (2:13.57) and Slepian (2:17.60) came in second and third.

Hillsdale swept the 200 yard individual medley with Clifford (2:15.02), Holmes (2:15.28), and Dickhudt (2:22.80) coming first, second, and third, respectively.

Clifford also topped the 200 yard butterfly with a 2:09.68. Senior Anna Clark came in second with a 2:18.32.

Holmes said she was happy to see the team do so well at this point in the season.

“I think we’re in a better position this year than we were last year,” Holmes said.

The Chargers will race Findlay University, the team’s rival, and Lewis University at home this Saturday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. This will be their last home meet of the semester before the Davenport Invitational the following weekend.

“I’m excited because the teams we’re swimming are really good at pushing us to be our best,” Taylor said.

Both the home meet and the invitational will give Hillsdale a chance to face tougher teams than they have so far.

“Everyone’s looking good for it and I’m really excited to see where that takes us as a whole,” Slepian said.

“We’re definitely going to have to fight because Findlay is stronger this year than they were last year,” Holmes said. “They definitely have some strong competitors, so it’s going to be evenly matched for sure. We have to be on our A game.”
