Hillsdale College students are known for their political prowess, and senior Dominic Restuccia is taking that characteristic to a new height.

The Marco Rubio for President campaign recently hired Restuccia as the chairman of the Students for Rubio in the state of Michigan, placing him in charge of starting new Students for Rubio chapters in the state and coordinating events and volunteers for the six existing Michigan chapters.

The hiring process started early in the semester when sophomore Claire Hughes sent Restuccia the contact information for a job the Rubio campaign asked her to consider. Restuccia reached out to the campaign to indicate his interest, which resulted in an interview.

“When our effort looks to bring on a student leader, we look for young, intelligent, ambitious, determined, and loyal volunteers,” said Jordan Wilson, the national political director for Students for Rubio. “It is our firm belief that Mr. Restuccia demonstrates these qualities and also shows strong character.”

The Rubio campaign contacted Restuccia a few days later, offering him the position.

“I was a little surprised because I knew it was very competitive,” Restuccia said. “I am definitely honored to be a part of it, and as we get closer to Michigan’s primary, I hope to have more of an impact.”

Before receiving the position, Restuccia helped launch Hillsdale’s Students for Rubio chapter, joining the University of Michigan, Saginaw Valley State University, Michigan State University, Alma College, and Ferris State University.

Restuccia said he believes being a Hillsdale student has prepared him for the job and made him stand out in the interview process.

“The campaign had a very favorable opinion of Hillsdale,” Restuccia said. “Hillsdale College is really becoming recognized as a conservative champion. We are known to the political community, and we’re making our presence felt.”

Senior Tyler Warman, chairman of the Hillsdale chapter, said Restuccia is qualified beyond his attendance at Hillsdale.

“Dom has a strong personality, and more importantly, he has strong character,” Warman said. “He is extremely affable. Even if he doesn’t know you on a personal level, he will still come up to you and ask you for support in a very honest and influential way.”

Restuccia said he believes this election could be one of the most influential that America has seen and is convinced that Rubio has set himself apart from a strong GOP field in three key ways. First, Rubio’s strong foreign policy would put America first through a strong projection of strength. Second, he said he believes Rubio is a candidate that can reunify a nation that Restuccia sees as extremely divided. Finally, Rubio has come out as adamantly pro-life, something very important to Restuccia.
