Comedian and contributor Steven Crowder will be at Hillsdale College on Tuesday, Feb. 4 for a Q&A session hosted by Young Americans for Freedom.
“He’s a comedian, not just an ordinary conservative speaker. We’re looking to mix it up a little bit by getting a lot more young people to come out, not just people who show up at CCAs,” said Tyler Warman, executive board member of YAF.
Crowder describes himself as a stand-up comedian who became famous for his viral web videos and voice acting on children’s shows.
“He generally pokes fun of pop culture and politics. You can watch stuff like Jon Stewart and Bill Maher, who have a mostly liberal bent. We chose Steven Crowder because he does comedy but has a generally conservative bent,” said Nate Brand, president of YAF.
The event will be held in Phillips Auditorium at 7 p.m., followed by an opportunity for students to ask questions and take pictures.
“At Hillsdale we get inundated with all these academic lectures and authors coming to talk,” Brand said. “This gives us the opportunity to hear a conservative voice in a different format. We talk a lot about trying to win the cultural wars and battle of ideas. Comedy is one of the best ways to do that.”
