Last Saturday’s Sigma Alpha Iota Charity Ball raised a record amount for the annual event: $1,605.
“It’s the most we’ve ever made at the Charity Ball since it began, and it beat our second biggest in 2007 by $400,” SAI Philanthropy Chair junior Ashley Pieper said.
According to Pieper, a line had formed outside the door by 9 p.m. when the ball opened. More than 400 people attended, breaking another SAI record.
“The theme really might have a lot to do with it,” Pieper said. “Everyone who heard about the theme got really excited about it, and the girls were really excited about the theme this year. We also pushed advertising for it.”
Pieper sent applications to the music departments of local high schools this summer to become the sponsored cause for this year’s Charity Ball. The music director for the Litchfield Community Schools submitted the winning presentation.
“I thought Litchfield had the most realistic goals for the money, and a very down-to-earth and reasonable director, so I thought she would be very logical with how everything was spent,” Pieper said.
The Litchfield music department plans to use the money raised to invest in new instruments and to maintain their current ones. The funds will also help them participate in a music competition in Ohio that a lack of sufficient funds barred them from entering in previous years.
“I just smile whenever I think about it,” Pieper said.
