The Student Activities Board has opened The Knorr Family Dining Room for studying this year on weeknights from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

The dining room has been open for study at night in the past. SAGA Inc. general manager Kevin Kirwan said. “They had it when Grewcock first opened. They did it for a while, but it really didn’t get used very much, and so they closed it up so they didn’t have to worry about cleaning up afterwards.”

Director of Student Activities Amanda Bigney explained the decision to use the room for that purpose again.

“People just didn’t know about it and people weren’t using it so we closed it. Last year we realized that there really was a need,” she said.

For Kirwan and SAGA, the situation is simple.

“Amanda Bigney just called me up and said we are going to try study at night in the dining room again, and I just said, OK,” Kirwan said, “There is versatility here. The dining room was conceived to have multi-purpose [uses] other than dining, studying being one of those.”

Bigney and Kirwan both shared concerns regarding students cleaning up their things when they leave.

“A lot of people are really excited about it because it’s a really different place to study. We’ve really been trying to get the word out and make sure people know it’s available,” Bigney said. “I hope that if we open it people will just know that it’s there and use it. Even if it’s not a large number of people, I think we will keep it open for the sake of the busy times.”
