The lights go out, the class is silent, and the teacher stands still in front of them holding a balloon. In one swift move, she raises the lighter to the ball of molecules and with a loud pop, a whiff of ozone, and a fireball, the class is instantly launched into the world of Dr. Christina Meyet’s Physical Science 101 class.

“I’m very excited to begin teaching at Hillsdale. I couldn’t be happier.” Dr. Meyet said.

Dr. Meyet is the newest addition to the Hillsdale Science department, teaching 4 100-level Physical Science sections and 1 400-level Biochemistry section. Dr. Meyet pursued a rigorous academic course load back home in California, receiving a B.S. at the California Polytechnic at Pomona for Animal Science and another at California State at San Bernardino. She completed her Master’s and Doctoral programs at California Riverside.

“Dr. Meyet’s class is great. Her class is enjoyable even for those who don’t enjoy science,” said freshman David Johnson, a student in her Physical Science 101 class.

Meyet has already made her mark in the science department by wowing her first few classes with more chemistry stunts like the exploding balloon. Her visual experiments make the class “much more interesting than other science classes,” Johnson added.

Dr. Meyet recently moved into a restored horse farm in nearby Jonesville, where she lives with her husband and two children, Kihel, 13, and Shane, 15.  To keep them company, the family owns and maintains 6 Morgan horses.
