Home Sports Intramural overhaul

This summer, Hillsdale College’s Recreational Sports Program was revamped in an effort to include more students.

The entire structure of the program changed to allow for more organization.  Brad Kocher, Hillsdale’s assistant baseball coach, was named the new director of Recreational Sports and the new assistant director is Kevin Foeman.  Together, they are in charge of the intramural sports leagues, as well as the club sports. Also, there are two student leaders in charge of running the events: seniors Brett Dailey and Arielle Baker.

In past years, there have only been basketball and football intramural leagues, however, this year there are already 14 events scheduled and Kocher said they are open to adding more events if there seems to be enough interest.

“It’s been very small-scale in the past and we want to make it huge. We want every single student in some event,” Kocher said.

But the events are not just limited to students this year.

“We’re trying to promote health and wellness of everyone on campus- so faculty and staff are invited, and encouraged really, to have teams too,” Kocher said.

In addition, the registration process for the events has changed.

“Many students didn’t know when or where to sign up- there was always a lot of confusion, so this year it’s online, which will really help streamline everything,” Baker said.

To kick off the school year, the program’s first event is a dodgeball tournament scheduled for Sept. 14. Students can go to imleagues.com/Hillsdale to sign up or create a team.
