Home News Katie Pavlich to speak on campus

On March 20, Katie Pavlich will be addressing students on the Second Amendment.

Pavlich, the news editor for Townhall.com, a contributing editor to Townhall Magazine, and the award-winning author of the New York Times Bestseller “Fast and Furious: Barack Obama’s Bloodiest Scandal and Its Shameless Cover-Up,” will be speaking in Phillips Auditorium at 7 p.m.

Nathan Brand, president of Young Americans for Freedom, said he wants as many students as possible to go to her speech.

“She is 27. She is a gorgeous woman,” Brand said. “Everyone is going to want to be there.”

Brand described her as a conservative activist who is outspoken regarding gun control and a critic of the Obama administration.

Pavlich said she grew up around firearms – receiving her first rifle on her 10th birthday. She said she first went hunting with her father for the first time when she was 11 years old.

“I grew up with a respectful view toward how I treat firearms,” Pavlich said.

Now that she lives across the river from D.C., she said she is interested in how legislation affects her Second Amendment rights and a woman’s right to choose how to defend herself.

Pavlich said she is specifically concerned with a woman’s need to defend herself on college campuses.

“A lot of people do not really understand this perspective,” Pavlich said, “I want to debunk myths and educate students about the Second Amendment.”

She said her speech is not just about changing minds, but rather educating people. She wants to provide students with more information about guns because people need to know the details.

She congratulated YAF for making a big difference on campuses and is excited to talk share with people of a similar mindset.

“I think Hillsdale is the school my mom wanted me to go to,” she said.
