Along with the new crop of incoming freshmen, several new faces have made their way into Hillsdale College’s illustrious faculty. Seven professors, specializing in studies ranging from psychology and physics to English and history, have joined the ranks of those who seek to understand and convey certain truths, each in their own unique way.

Professor Stacey Jones

An Oregon native, Stacey Jones grew up with an interest in both sports and music. She found her passion in drumming, and majored in percussion performance, studying at both the University of Oregon and Michigan State University, where she specialized on the marimba, which she described as being “a very large xylophone.”

After college, she toured the country as a guest artist and as a member of the percussion duo, Equal Temperament, with her late husband, Hillsdale music professor Eric Jones. She has also taught percussion at high schools and colleges all over central Michigan, including Lansing Community College, Albion College, and Spring Arbor University. Jones performed regularly for the Lansing and Jackson symphony orchestras, and is now a member of the Jackson-based folk band, We Are The Ink Money, as a percussionist and vocalist.

When asked what she hopes to attain here at Hillsdale, Jones said, “I want to be a part of a growing music department. I want to do everything I can from the multiple angles of my unique job description to keep the percussion department and the music department as a whole consistently building in quality, passion, and communication.”

Jones continued by saying that she hopes to help her students love music. “I want them to discover what can be gained through one’s best work: an appreciation for new things, satisfaction, and joy.”

Dr. Lindsay White

A visiting assistant professor of economics and a graduate of Hillsdale College, Lindsay White earned her undergraduate degree in classical studies and economics. She went on to attend Claremont Graduate University, located just outside of Los Angeles, where she earned her master’s and doctorate in economics.

White worked as a transfer pricing manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, where she was tasked with developing pricing policies for international corporations. She also worked as an economic consultant for a range of companies, including 20th Century Fox, Sony Corporation, and Amazon.com Inc. Other previous work experiences include a stint at Oxnard College in California, where she taught economics, and a job as a research associate and managing editor at the Claremont Institute.

“My goal here at Hillsdale is to bring my various consulting experiences to the classroom in order to show students the practical applications of economics and economic modeling that is utilized in the private sector,” said White. She went on to say that she encourages students to “think on their feet” and challenge the traditional approaches usually found in the applied field of economics.

Dr. Paul Hosmer

A southern Michigan native and Hillsdale College alumnus, Paul Hosmer completed his undergraduate studies in physics in 1999. He then attended Michigan State University, where he worked at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory, earning his doctorate in physics, specializing in the field of experimental nuclear physics.

Hosmer joined the U.S. Navy after obtaining his doctorate, where he worked as an instructor at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Charleston, S.C. After his military service, Hosmer taught at Spring Arbor University as an Affiliate Professor of Physics. He then taught physics at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn., before returning to Hillsdale as an assistant professor of physics.

“I would be very happy if I helped some of my students see and enjoy the beauty and complexity of the physical world,” Hosmer said.

He went on to say he wished to see the “spark of life in their eyes” and emphasized the fact that he did not want multiple pages of homework turned in unstapled.
