A Hart, Mich. native was found in Defiance, Ohio on Feb. 21 after walking away from the Michindoh Ministries Conference Center in Hillsdale on the previous Saturday afternoon.
Nathan Mick left his church retreat group without informing other mem- bers of his intentions, according to sources at Michindoh Ministries. “Apparently, he has a history of doing this kind of thing,” said Jeff
Knoll, Director of Youth Programs at the Michindoh Conference Center. “It wasn’t anything that could be prevented.”
When the retreat leaders realized that Mick had left the group, group members launched a search for him and contacted the authorities.
Mick has a learning disability, but did not come to the church retreat as part of a special needs group.
“We did not know that he had a learning disability until after the fact,” said Knoll.
Due to prior incidents, relatives of Mick were not concerned with the situation. The search was launched in an effort to ensure that he had not come into any harm.
