The faculty meeting that took place on March 1 provided an opportunity for several departments to do some housekeeping.

The German department streamlined its minor from 11 to nine credit hours beyond the 201 language requirement.

The department also slightly reconfigured the major to allow students a choice between focusing more heavily on literature or on language. But Professor of German Eberhard Geyer said the difference is only one course.

Also, German 350, the study abroad program, was renamed “Study in a German Speaking Country” to allow students to highlight this coursework more prominently, Geyer said.

The economics department cut the required accounting class from the major. Professor of Political Economy Gary Wolfram said this was in order to allow economics majors interested in graduate school to take an extra upper-level math class, which he said is more important for a competitive application.

The biology department trimmed as well, changing two botany courses from four credits to three credits. Meanwhile, the Honors Program added a one-credit seminar to the freshman core requirement, to be taken in the fall.
