The Student Activities Board provided students with free dessert Nov. 5 at Late Night Ice Cream Bar.

The event was a great way to show everyone the SAB office and provide a social break from studying in the middle of the semester, according to Emma Kate Mellors, a senior and SAB team member.

“We do a late night cereal bar every spring semester, and we love that event,” Mellors said. “We were trying to figure out a way to do that in the fall and we thought, ‘What better way than ice cream?’”

Freshman Charlie Rahner said he enjoyed the event and was impressed by the music and decorations.

“They had some great soft lighting in the room, so it was kind of dark, and the SAB members were happy, keeping everyone high energy,” Rahner said. “It was perfect to eat some ice cream to prep me for a good study night.”

SAB provided an array of ice cream flavors, from vanilla and chocolate to cake batter and mint chocolate chip. Students served themselves, choosing either a cup or a waffle cone and topped their ice cream with various candies. Several students had contests to catch gummy bears or M&Ms in their mouths, usually resulting in a mess on the floor.

According to Mellors, this event is unique because the close quarters of the office creates the opportunity for students to make new friends.

“When you’re coming into the office, it’s a really tiny space so everyone’s grabbing from the same few items and talking with people that you might not usually talk to,” Mellors said.

Sophomore Pia Chapello said she was excited by the event because ice cream has always been her favorite food.

“Ice cream is not only there for you in the high moments when you’re hanging out with your friends, but it’s also there in the low moments when your boyfriend broke up with you,” Chapello said.
