The election is less than a week away, and the Hillsdale Chapter of Young America’s Foundation is ready to celebrate the advancement of conservatism by hosting Freedom Week from Oct. 5 to October 9.

Freedom Week honors the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. YAF has a variety of planned events throughout the week.

YAF President sophomore Nathan Brand explained that Freedom Week has the purpose of “honoring veterans and advancing the conservative movement”.

There will be a showing of Dinesh D’Souza’s “2016: Obam’s America” in Phillips Auditorium on Monday at 8 p.m.

“A lot of students haven’t seen the movie and I think it is a great time to show it, especially with the election being the next day,” Brand said.

YAF plans on getting a campaign of students together to reach out to Hillsdale residents and encourage them to make it to the polls and vote.

On Thursday, YAF will be constructing a life size Berlin Wall on the quad. Students will then have the chance to vandalize the wall with spray paint.

To end the week, on Friday, YAF will tear down the wall, commemorating the anniversary of the Berlin Wall’s destruction.

On the YAF website it encourages each chapter to “remind students of those still fighting for freedom” by recognizing both the fall of the Berlin Wall and Veterans day. Christopher Boyajian, a freshman and member of YAF sees Freedom Week as a chance to remind the campus of the importance of a free society.

“The Berlin Wall symbolizes oppression,” Brand said. “More specifically the separation between a free society and a communist society. When it was torn down it symbolized the end of an era of Communism.”

Brand encourages all students to check out YAF events throughout Freedom Week. “This a great chance for students to honor those fighting for freedom and an opportunity get to know more about YAF,”
