Broad Street Downtown Market to Have Soft Opening for Market Tavern

Home News Broad Street Downtown Market to Have Soft Opening for Market Tavern

Broad Street Downtown Market will host the soft opening for its Market Tavern today.

The tavern, which will be situated inside the Market, was set to open on Feb. 1, but this was delayed due to problems obtaining a Class C liquor license from the Michigan Liquor Control Commission. This license allows a retailer to sell the beer, wine, and liquor for on-premise consumption.

While this primary setback has been resolved, there are still a few kinks that need to be worked out to insure smooth operation. The Market is still waiting on its hardware and software products to be shipped, so dealing with customers may initially prove challenging.

“It’s going to be a little cumbersome, but we are still planning on opening,” said Broad Street owner Mick Ritter.

For the soft opening, beer and wine, as well as an antipasto bar, will be available.

Because the Market’s Class C license was granted after the order date for alcohol, it will take an additional week for all liquor shipments to be made. Yet Ritter anticipates that Market Tavern will be fully operational by next Wednesday, March 13 with a full bar as well as small plates and full-dinner items.
