The Hillsdale Community Health Center continues construction on its new building, which began over one year ago. The new building will allow the hospital to accommodate up to 19 long-term patients. The building is estimated to be completed and in use this upcoming winter.

“There is no drop-dead date yet, but sometime this winter we will be able to move into the new facility,” said Director of Development Judy Gabriele. “We expect sometime in January [it will be done].”

Construction has gone smoothly so far, and the process is currently ahead of schedule, Gabriele said. She expects the new building to be a great asset to the hospital, as it will create more space and jobs. Patients will no longer have to be transported out of the county for long term care.

A general lack of space in nursing homes and private rooms in the hospital initially inspired the project, and the new equipment and space should pay for themselves, said HCHC President and CEO Duke Anderson in an earlier interview with Hillsdale.net.

“It’s a skilled nursing facility — a nursing home. We’ll have 19 beds on the main floor, and, on the other floor, we will have the OB Department,” Gabriele said.
