Seniors Clint Westbrook and Anna Saewert were crowned this year’s President’s Ball king and queen.
“Even from the beginning of the process, I didn’t expect my name to be on the list,” Westbrook said. “To be on the court with great guys and then to be chosen was a huge honor because I respected all of them.”
Each year, 10 seniors are nominated by the faculty to be on President’s Ball Court and then interviewed by a panel. The candidates are judged on “academic excellence, honor, campus involvement and leadership ability,” an all-campus email from Student Activities Board said.
Both Westbrook and Saewert enjoyed the interview process. After the panel, all candidates were invited to Broadlawn to mix with faculty.
The pair had the opportunity to dance with President Larry Arnn and his wife Penny Arnn to “The Moonlight Serenade.”
“I was so nervous! Who wouldn’t be?” Saewert said about dancing with Arnn. “He was so sweet and forgiving of my ability to not dance, especially in heels.”
“We considered it a huge success,” said senior Hannah Treppa, president of SAB.
SAB was pleased with last year’s President’s Ball and decided not to make any major changes to the event. SAB also managed to stay completely within their budget, Treppa said.
After graduation, Saewert is considering teaching. “I am not exactly sure yet, but I am allowing doors to open where they will and waiting to know what God wants me to do,” she said.
Westbrook is planning to either go to law school or teach English in France. All his applications have gone out and he is waiting to hear back and make a decision.
