Who will restore ‘the happiest place in Hillsdale?’

That place every Hillsdale College student recognizes but doesn’t really know — Silos Fun Park — is for sale. The self-acclaimed “Happiest Place in Hillsdale” opened in the summer of 2004, replete with two go-kart tracks, a putt-putt course, bumper boats, a cafe and arcade, batting cages, and a lighted golf driving range, and has offered Hillsdale’s families a fun, safe environment for hosting birthday parties and community events.

Dave and Mary Cleveland, co-owners of the park, also own Data Management Consultants, Inc., a company that supplies local broadband to Hillsdale and five surrounding counties. According to Cathy Galloway, the real estate agent presiding over the property, DMCI is “extremely successful” and requires much of the Clevelands’ time. Because of that and their desire to support their daughter, a high school student at Hillsdale Academy, in all of her extra-curriculars, the couple is seeking to sell or lease the property.

The couple originally purchased the property with a restaurant and business event center in mind. Once the schematics were drawn up, the bank refused to approve the loan needed to start work on the restaurant without the couple having another income source to substantiate the business. So, plans for the park were conceived.

The Clevelands operated Silos Fun Park at full capacity during the summer months from 2004 to 2010, but it has not been open the past few summers since they decided to lease it.
