Students ran 3.14 miles and ate pie to celebrate Pi Day on Wednesday.

The Pi Day Run was hosted by the American Chemical Society and began at 3:14 p.m. Runners started at the Margaret Thatcher statue and ran through the Oak Grove Cemetery and back to campus through the Baw Beese trail.

“We hold the event to celebrate something fun, as pi is a number that is used a lot in chemistry, physics, and mathematics,” said senior Bryn Rothhaas, the historian for ACS. “ACS in particular is open to all majors and this event was a great way of bringing a bunch of people together.”

The Pi Day run is held every year usually on March 14, but due to the date falling on spring break, it was postponed.

The pie was supplied by students in the upper level science classes. Any student who made a pie for the event received extra credit.

“During the run, the miles flew by,” said sophomore Carissa Nisly. “The weather was beautiful and running with a community of other Hillsdale students made the minutes feel like nothing. The pie afterwards was just a cherry on top.”

Junior Erin Mannion volunteered to help run the event and said that the event was a success.

“I think it went well, it was a pretty good turnout despite the cold and wind,” Mannion said. “I think more people should come in the future though because we had too much extra pie.”
