Normally a spot to recharge with caffeine, A.J.’s Café recently installed a battery station for students to recharge their devices.
This addition came about after Hillsdale College’s Student Federation reviewed a survey of students to pinpoint areas for improvement around campus. It purchased the station from its budget to address the scarcity of outlets in the Grewock Student Union, Student Fed President Joe Spica said.
“We all discussed how this was a problem we had all personally seen in the union, one we could solve very quickly, and one we could fix with a rather low expense,” Spica said.
The charging station sits near the entrance of the café. A pole holds up the large battery that has eight charging outlets on top, which include USB and lightning cord ports.
Freshman Timothy Green said he does not like the location of the station, as it lacks a place for him to sit while his phone is charging. However, Christa LaVoie, also a freshman, said she likes that it promotes social interaction.
“I don’t have to go down to my dorm now to charge my phone,” LaVoie said “I can be with people and charge my phone. It’s a win-win situation.”
