Marketing department’s Instagram holds fall photo contest

Hillsdale College’s marketing department held its annual fall photo contest on Instagram in October. The contest sought the best photo of the beauty of campus’s autumn colors.

Senior Corinne Zehner took the winning photograph. She received a $10 gift card to AJ’s Café and bragging rights as the fall photo queen.

“It was an awesome little surprise as I walked out of practice,” said Zehner, a member of the women’s track and field team. “I really was just bored walking to class one day and stopped to take the picture.”

She said photography is a hobby she enjoys.

“I like photography, and I’ve always been interested in it, but I haven’t had any opportunities to ever get involved or try it out,” Zehner said. “I just like taking pictures on my phone, and I’m always on social media.”

Hillsdale joined the fall photo contest scene on social media last fall.

“It’s fun,” said Hannah Strickland, the college’s social community manager, who directed the contest. “Michigan is gorgeous in the fall. Everyone is taking photos on social media anyways, so we decided to make a contest out of it.”

Approximately 175 students and professors submitted their photos for entry via Instagram, using #ahillsdaleautumn. The marketing department could not include those with Instagram accounts that are set to private, however, because it could not view them.

Those interested can check out the other submissions by searching for the hashtag #ahillsdaleautumn on Instagram.

“It’s really interesting to see what different people consider beautiful on campus and seeing the different perspectives,” Strickland said.
