Junior Megan Fogt was named First Team All-American by both the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and Daktronics.

She was one of only 10 women in NCAA Division II to receive this honor given by the WBCA, and the only player in the GLIAC.

She is one of five women in Division II to be on the Daktronics All-American First Team. She qualified for this after being named First Team All-Region.

This was the first year in Hillsdale College history that players from both basketball teams were named to All-American teams in the same season, after senior Tim Dezelski was named Third Team All-American, First Team All-Region, and First Team All-Conference. He was also named Second Team All-Region by the National Association of Basketball coaches. He is only the second Hillsdale men’s basketball player to be named All-American.

Fogt was also named Daktronics Midwest Region Player of the Year, the second women’s basketball player in Hillsdale history to do so after Katie Cezat during her senior year in 2009.

“We always talk about Katie Cezat,” head coach Claudette Charney said. “Megan is very comparable.”

Cezat holds many of Hillsdale’s game, season, and career records. This season, Fogt was second to Cezat’s 521 season rebounds with 435, and second to Cezat’s 100 season blocks with 67.

With one season left to play, Fogt is already fourth in school history with 756 career rebounds, and second to Cezat’s 138 career blocks with 107.

In the four-overtime win against Walsh University, Fogt set a school record with 58 minutes of playing time.

In the final game of the regular season against the University of Findlay, she set school and conference records by going 14-15 from the field, making her final 14 consecutive shots.

Fogt led the nation in rebounding this season, averaging 16.1 rebounds per game. Her 22 double-doubles were second in the nation.

“I think my biggest accomplishment was developing consistency throughout the year,” Fogt said. “Being someone my team could count on was a really big deal for me.”

Fogt led the GLIAC in points per game, with 20.3.

She earned seven GLIAC South Division Player of the Week awards, and was named GLIAC Player of the Year.

“She is very humble,” Charney said.

Charney said it can be a negative at times because she can lack confidence.

“Last year I was never confident in my ability,” Fogt said. “This year I developed a sense of self-confidence and it has taken me places.”

Outside of basketball, Fogt takes her academics seriously, with a 3.84 overall grade point average, and volunteers at the Hillsdale Community Health Center.

“Academics always come first, and they always have,” Fogt said.

Earlier in the year, Fogt was also named Second Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America, which Fogt said was important to her because it combined her athletic and academic performances.

Fogt’s goal for next season is to win the GLIAC, make it to the NCAA tournament, and have a winning record.

“The best part of our team is that there are so many capable players,” Fogt said. “Any one could step up on any given night. It’s going to take all of us, and we can do some damage.”
