After much disagreement, both incumbent Gov. Rick Snyder (R-MI) and Democrat Mark Schauer have agreed to a single televised town hall before the general election.
The town hall, which Snyder’s campaign calls a joint appearance while Schauer’s calls it a debate, will take place Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. at Wayne State University in Detroit and is jointly hosted by the Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, and Detroit Public Television.
During the debate, the Snyder campaign hopes to talk about job creation under his administration. The Schauer campaign hopes to talk about his opposing economic position creating an “economy that works for everyone.”
Detroit News Editorial Page Editor Nolan Finley and Free Press Editorial Page Editor Stephen Henderson will moderate the event while PBS TV anchor Christy McDonald will serve as host of the televised town hall and will field questions from the audience. The audience of the event will be filled with undecided voters who were selected by polling firms that work for the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press.
