Student Federation elections will be held next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 11:45 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the Grewcock Student Union. According to vice president nominee junior Heather Lantis, every student should go vote.

“Student Fed wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the chunk of money handed to it by the administration. That money comes out of every single student’s budget. They all have a voice in Student Fed whether they choose to use it or not, and this is their opportunity to elect people to use their money wisely,” Lantis said.

Junior Annie Teigen and sophomore Lucia Rothaas are running for secretary, sophomores Marie Wathen and Jordan Finney are running for treasurer, junior Heather Lantis and sophomore Tyler Warman are running for vice president, and junior Arielle Mueller is running for president unopposed.

“I adore her. She’s wonderful,” Rothaas said.

Teigen agrees that Mueller will more than satisfy the position of president.

“She’s really competent. She’ll do a great job,” Teigen said.

Senior David Wilhelmsen, outgoing president of Student Fed, hopes his time in office has helped improve Student Fed.

“My goal was to continue what was passed on to us and improve upon it,” Wilhelmsen said. “The big goal was to bring a little bit of accountability to try and figure out where money was going if it was being spent properly within the lens of what students wanted. We wanted to be as good stewards with the money as we could, be as accountable as we could, and do as much good with it as we could.”

Outgoing junior representative Casey McKee, who is not running for re-election, sees his time on Student Fed as “an excellent exercise in putting to use some of the principles of government.”

“Being on Student Fed forces you to really learn how to work with other people and to deal with the conflicts that arise,” McKee said. “It was also a lot of fun, and I got to know some of the people on the Fed very well, which made it enjoyable.”
