Vanished Hillsdale

Today, the reminisce of the Paul Revere School, built in 1886, still sits on the corner of N. West Street and Fayette. It served as a school for Hillsdale’s second ward until 1939, when the school closed after the Joseph Mauck Elementary School opened. In 1940, Hillsdale College purchased the former school for $2,000 to serve as a maintenance building and repair shop. In 1943, the college sold the property to provide space for an additional industrial war factory in the city of Hillsdale.  Multiple manufacturers, including a box factory which relocated its headquarters here in 1953, used this building after the war. The college repurchased it to serve as the Maintenance Building, and it has housed maintenance equipment since 1992 when the J Fowler Maintenance Building was erected next to Simpson Dormitory.

“A beautiful Structure – It is by far one of the most convenient and well equipped school buildings in the city.”
