Vroman is the owner of a new golf simulator in town called “At the Turn.” The business opened on March 22 and is located at 10 W. Carleton St. in the Hungry Howie’s Plaza. It is open seven days a week.

What exactly is “At the Turn?”

Well, they’re golf simulators. They’re actual simulators, not a video game. It’s fairly high-tech and pretty expensive. You use your own clubs and your own balls.

How do the simulators work?

There are two high-speed cameras, and it’s all connected to a 14-foot screen. The image of the course is projected onto the screen. Each simulator is programmed with 39 separate courses.

Why a golf simulation center?

That’s a good question. You know, I don’t know. We were originally going for a hand-dip ice cream place. After checking with the health department and all the regulations, we realized that creating a kitchen would be $40,000. That’s just crazy. I’m an avid golfer. I had been to golf simulation places in Jackson, and they’ve gotten a lot better over the years. I just thought, “Hey, why don’t we try this?” Now, I’m loving it.

How much does it cost to play?

Right now, we have the summer rate, which is $10 for half an hour during the week and $13 for half an hour on the weekend. A half an hour will get you about nine holes. It’s nice, because you don’t have to walk from hole to hole.
