Home Sports Teams transition into Biermann Center

With the grand opening of the Margot V. Biermann Center now completed, track and tennis teams have moved in and are getting settled into their new complex.

After previously having to share the gym with the many other teams on campus, head coach of the women’s track team Andrew Towne describes past practice times as “controlled chaos.”

Now, with a safer and more ordered atmosphere, Towne said he believes the quality of practice will improve.

“We are going to be able to get a lot more out of the kids over there, which is a good thing,” Towne said.  “So for some groups there will be no change at all, but for the majority of people it will be different.”

Along with the changing of location, men’s head track coach Jeff Forino said teams are also forced to change their schedule and practice routines.

“When you move into a new place, you are not exactly sure what you are going to do where,” Forino said. “So it will take awhile to get used to where [we] are going to do things, but [this process is a] positive one because we have a beautiful new building.”

Despite major changes, teams seem to be adjusting to the new sports complex easily.

Women’s tennis coach Nicole Walbright said the team looks forward to being able to practice in the Biermann Center for the remainder of the semester.

“It has been really fun to watch the girls’ reactions. They all were shocked at how big it was and couldn’t wait to start practicing,” Walbright said. “I think each of them really appreciates the hard work that was done to get this building for us and they are excited to start using it.”

Senior tennis player Morgan Linden said she looks forward to being able to call the new complex “home.”

“It will be really nice to have a central hub where we can meet with our coach, have locker rooms, hold practice and have possible events for the team,” Linden said.  “It is a step closer to having the feeling that we have earned a spot on Hillsdale’s campus.”
