Hillsdale College’s Information Technology Services said it will be able to do away with the SafeConnect software client by the end of the semester.

The SafeConnect software is used to ensure the safety of the school’s network resources. Each computer is required to have a software client installed on it, which ensures that no viruses enter the school’s system by mandating virus software and up to date operating systems while prohibiting peer-to-peer file sharing software.

Executive Director of ITS David Zenz said that the changes to the system would make using the school’s resources much easier for students, as well as make using personal wireless access points much easier out of the box. ITS would be able to fulfill its security needs while doing away with the need to install software on every computer.

In addition to being simpler for users and guests on the school’s network, the new changes will keep the school’s system current with new technology trends.
