How long have you lived in Hillsdale?

I moved here my senior year in high school when my dad bought some land in Hillsdale.  We lived in northwest Indiana and would travel up the coast of the lake for vacation and trips.  My dad just decided to move to the first place inland and north of the Indiana border and that was Hillsdale, so we moved here.

When did you start volunteering your time for the Athletic Department?

It was probably the mid 1970’s. I had a friend who was helping coach the men’s basketball team and he asked me if I’d like to work the table at a game. I agreed and began working on and off ever since then.

What made you keep coming back and offering your time to help the Chargers?

I’ve always liked sports and I enjoyed watching them with my dad. I never played any when I was a kid and now I just enjoy being around the kids and getting to help out.

What changes have you seen in the last few decades with the Charger athletic program?

With women’s basketball, the program has improved leaps and bounds. The Chargers have always been good, but now the program is better than ever and it’s awesome being able to help with the program. Coach Charney is great and it’s fun working with her.

What is your favorite part about helping out with the teams?

I just really like being around the kids and helping out.  It’s fun and it doesn’t seem like work to me. I really enjoy it. It’s cool how the team all gets along together. The players get along with each other, the parents get along, and it’s just a good atmosphere to be a part of. In a nutshell, I just like being a part of it and helping out in whatever aspect I can.

How have you had an impact on players and how have they had an impact on you?

I just enjoy helping out with the team. I don’t care if it’s filming, running the clock, or whatever they need, it’s just nice to know I can help and be a part of it. It’s great making new friends and I get a chance to be with a great group of people. It’s exactly what they say about Hillsdale—it’s the people.
