The Hillsdale College sororities picked up their new pledges last week.

While freshmen were just getting a glimpse of Greek life – awaiting the spring when they can officially rush –– sophomores, juniors, and seniors participated in fall rush. The sororities sent out bids, the rushees accepted them, and now the Greek houses are welcoming the women into their houses.

All counted, 26 women were added to the college’s Greek system.

“During fall recruitment, we picked up 14 new members for Kappa Kappa Gamma, including sophomores and a few juniors as well,” said senior Kelsie White, Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority president. “We are very excited to welcome such a fantastic group of young women to our chapter.”

Chi Omega sorority membership increased by 10 women this rush week.

Pi Beta Phi sorority recruited two new members this semester.

“Recruitment is always a very exciting time, and we are so thrilled that our new sisters were able to find their home at Pi Phi,” said senior Maggie Martin, president of Pi Beta Phi. “We look forward to many amazing memories over the course of the semester and beyond.”

Next semester the freshmen will rush. This freshmen class has not only increased the standard academically, but has also increased in number.

Associate Dean of Women Rebekah Dell said the sororities will be able to handle the large number of women in the freshmen class.

“The way the sorority system is set up, it’s prepared to handle both large and small groups,” she said.

White said she has not heard of any proposed changes to rush rules to accommodate the freshmen. She said the sororities are even excited for the large number of women joining them in the spring.

“I think I can speak for the Greek system as a whole when I say we are looking forward to having so many freshmen women go through the recruitment process in January,” White said.

Martin said the same.

“[We] are looking toward formal recruitment with a lot of optimism,” she said,” and look forward to getting to know a lot of the girls and welcoming them home in January.”
