With the final deposit date for incoming students fast approaching, Hillsdale College is waiting for the decisions of the more than 900 students that were admitted to the class of 2016.

Director of Admissions Jeff Lantis said the number of deposits are “currently very healthy.” The number is up about 15 percent from this time last year, when the college admitted 954 students and welcomed a class of 364.

Lantis said the recent Leadership Weekend, which the college held for the first time in April to recruit students with excellent extracurriculars, has already resulted in great dividends. He said some top students who were admitted but had never visited Hillsdale fell in love with the college over the weekend, and even some who still did not expect to be able to attend said the Leadership Weekend itself made them better people.

“We were very encouraged by that,” Lantis said.

The final deposit date is May 1.
